Festivals

  • Sukkot is celebrated in Seaside’s sukkah – Kiddish moves to the Sukkah after services. The sukkah is available throughout the Festival as a venue for sharing a meal or communal singing and other celebrations. The Membership Committee offers a “Pizza in the Hut” meal during Sukkot.
  • Shmini Azeret continues our celebration of Sukkot and offers another opportunity to recite Yizkor.
  • Simchat Torah is a lively celebration, featuring Aliyot and Hakafot (circle dancing) with Torahs for all, and a wide variety of songs and music. Weather permitting, we dance inside and outside.
  • Nightly Hanukkah observances via zoom take us into members’ homes where families with children take turns reciting the blessings and lighting the candles. Members volunteer to share traditions on latke making, dreidel playing, or stories and songs.
  • Tu B’Shevat is celebrated with a Tree Seder and planting of trees when weather permits.
  • Purim is celebrated with costumed members reading the Megillah, leading songs, performing a Spiel. Groggers and Hamantaschen available for all.
  • Spring activities also include observances of Lag B’Omer, Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) and Israel Independence Day (Yom Ha Atzmaut).
  • Shavuot is observed with study sessions and a festival service including Yizkor.
  • Tisha B’Av is observed with the traditional reading of Lamentations (Aicha) and other readings.
